Hi fellow 049'rs. I just wanted to post a quick message to alert
you to some of the things coming up at 049!

1) We are available for parties if anyone is interested or if anyone
knows someone looking for a KJ (Karakoe DJ). Send me an email at
shawn@049events.com if you need a KJ!

2) Next Wednesday (11/16/05) is our LAST day at Edinburgh Castle.
Unfortunately, the venue did not suit itself to karaoke so we
decided to move on. So come down and eat some fish and chips and
sing good bye to edinburgh with us.

3) We are looking for a new venue and have some great leads. Right
now we are STRONGLY leaning towards "The Connecticut Yankee". What
do you guys think of this place? Have you been there? Here are the
things I like
a) TONS of parking
b) TONS of public transportation
c) full kitchen serving meals all night
d) full bar with cheap drinks!
e) big open space with small stage for karaoke people
f) great sound system
g) The karaoke will be integrated with the bar instead of tucked
away in a corner
h) outdoor patio
i) right on the street so you can easily step outside for a
cigarrette.

That is our update for now, talk to you later!
Shawn

Well, we really don't NEED people, last week, we had about 10 people all night and I sung a LOT more than I have had in the past, it was super fun, but ... it doesnt hurt to have people show up to our shows ... that way we can make a little extra money so I can buy more karaoke cd's!

Soo ... if you come down, you might find the opportunity to sing quite a few songs, and if it happens that it is a busy night, well, we can hang out and talk :)

I have added a ton of new music to my list and I have a new system that allows me to spend less time messing around and more time talking to friends so I hope to see y'all there!

The next karaoke at Edinburgh is Oct 5th at 9pm.

Shawn

PS: If you get there early, you will be able to sing a lot of songs. Also, the fish and chips ends at 11pm so if you are hungry, be sure to be there before 11.

As some of you may know, I have been experimenting with vocal reducer software and a program called "Power Karaoke" in order to...well, I'm really not sure what the legal ramifications are for doing what I'm doing to just make (Not Just) Britpop Karaoke at Leisure seem just that much more special than it already does compared to, say, singing "I Will Survive" for the 50 gazillionth time at The Mint with your sorority sisters/fraternity brothers. So, let me just say, I've added 14 new (homemade) tracks and amongst, them, you may find a Van Halen track most of you know from a certain 80's John Cusack film, some tracks from a pre-solo career Iggy Pop, and a song about touching a "tra-la-la".

That's all from me for now. Let's now join this month's Leisure ad, already in progress....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The top news story in England ten years ago this week was Blur and Oasis battling it out to be Number One in the British charts. Not since the 60s, with The Beatles and The Stones, had the release of two bands' records been so important to the public. Even the tabloids waded in, claiming it was North vs South and salt of the earth vs poshos.
In 1994 Britain shrugged off its grunge hangover and embraced what was essentially a recreation of a fantasy of the swinging, '60s: It looked , sounded and felt sumptuous. Indie guitar pop became fun again: Art, Fashion, Magazines and Literature ALL went day-glo Union Jack coloured.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
A decade on and the BBC have devoted an entire night of broadcasting in celebration of the halcyon days of "cool britannia".
NME and UNCUT magazine have dedicated an entire 200 page magazine to "Vintage" and "Classic" Britpop.
Two documentaries capturing the essence of that rapturous time period : "The Britpop Story" and "Live Forever" have now been released on dvd.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

AND FINALLY
As part of this massive multicontinental celebration, this week, we bring you a very special:
BLUR STONE ROSES PULP THE JAM SUEDE OASIS HAPPY MONDAYS BELLE & SEBASTIAN THE VERVE CHARLATANS ELASTICA MENSWEAR THE SMITHS KULA SHAKER MY BLOODY VALENTINE RIDE PRIMAL SCREAM ST. ETIENNE SUPERGRASS RADIOHEARD GENE SLEEPER CURVE SLOWDIVE HEAVENLY CAST CHAPTERHOUSE ECHOBELLY MASSIVE ATTACK BLUETONES RIALTO SHED 7 ASH MANIC STREET PREACHERS BIS ADORABLE DANDY WARHOLS GENEVA

SATURDAY AUGUST 27TH
JOIN AARON POPSCENE AND OMAR FAKE ON THE DANCE FLOOR THIS SATURDAY FOR AN EXTRA SPECIAL EVENING FEATURING NOTHING BUT THE SOUNDS OF CLASSIC BRITPOP, SHOEGAZE, MADCHESTER AND 90S INDIE!
FEATURING
EXTRA DOSES OF PURE POP BLISS FROM THE MAIN CONTENDERS TO THE VINTAGE BRITPOP THRONE: OASIS AND BLUR AND PULP AND SUEDE!
A SPECIAL GUEST DJ SET FROM NAKO OF SHUTTER AND POPSCENE!!
AND
VINTAGE BRITPOP KARAOKE IN THE SMOKING LOUNGE COURTESY OF BILL,
SO YOU CAN SING LIKE JARVIS, BRETT, DAMON AND LIAM INSTEAD OF JUST DRESSING LIKE THEM!!!

"Most alarmingly though is the fact that 'Daydreamer' by Menswear was a spindly post punk classic that prefigured the rise of Bloc Party and The Futureheads.
Seriously.
And so with Britain in top gear again, it's time for a reassessment of what was a load of fun. It's important to celebrate the fact that, rather than 'Country House' and 'Roll with it', it's Elastica, Pulp and Blur's album tracks, that still sound relevant in an age of Franz Ferdinand, The Libertines and The Kaiser Chiefs.
A decade on , the smart stuff's finally winning" A. Thorton (NME)
